Project 2010-2011: The Three Hundred

This project has another name called How to Recycle the Books that Were Thrown Away by Davis Public Library.

This is a book of drawings with ink and pencil, inspired by the book of Tom Mangold and John Penycate, Tunnels of Cu Chi,1985, published by Ballantine Books, New York.

Here are some images of the book's page drawings.
I am still working on the drawings to finish the book.

Update: I just officially finished the last page of this book last week, 17 Jan of 2012. So this book almost took me two years to finish.

"The Three Hundred series was inspired by the single-minded tenacity that was required to construct the 300-km-long CuChi tunnels in southern Vietnam during the war, using only rudimentary tools fashioned
from remnant American supplies. The act of drawing everyday on different pages of found books
parallels the inch-by-inch digging that was spurred on by one ultimate goal.

Huynh Thuy Chau graduated from U.C. Berkeley, majoring in fine arts and social work, and received her M.F.A. from UC Davis. Her artwork is in a constant process of change as each project represents her intentions to understand and use past experiences. She often employs found and repurposed
materials in her artwork. She currently resides in Seattle" ( Transform ART, 2012, VAALA)
